Gewürztraminer 2018
Our winemaker’s favourite grape, and an exciting take on it—a much drier, more expressive wine than the dessert stickies you’d often see it used for. The nose is a stunner, the bouquet bursting with Turkish delight florals and tropical fruit (lychee, honeysuckle, jasmine), while the palate is full and mouth-filling—thanks to time fermenting on skins—with citrus and spice combining beautifully in a wine that’ll pair excellently with food (it’ll stand up to plenty of salt or spice—go a pad thai) or conversation.

Winemaker Notes
Since my first releases of this varietal (which in my opinion is most terroir-driven of all the white grapes) I’ve worked to make a dry wine that highlights spice and texture rather than upfront fruit, while remaining very delicate. For this vintage, though, the change in vineyard blocks and production means that this is a wine made from the remains of the Gewürztraminer component of our Cloth Label White. Therefore, this wine is no longer delicate: it’s consciously very big, due to fermentation on skins, which has given higher tannin than earlier releases and—combined with the fact that spice flavours and aromas are late to develop in our vineyard—higher alcohol. With that said, the balance between acid, tannin, alcohol and lees volume make this a very luscious, expressive wine—made to drink with food—that’ll continue to mature for a long time.
